Every now and again I get a photo or two that looks semi-professional, and so I think that qualifies me to offer other people advice on photography. So here are a few points I’m currently trying to remember as I take photos, that another budding photographer might find useful:
Don’t get so fixated on the subject [...]
I got some pretty nice macro shots in Donegal recently using my Sigma 50mm. Here’s what Thrift and Clover look like when you’re up real close…
I’m hoping when I’m in the states (I leave on Friday for 2½ weeks) to pick up a Sigma 18-50mm since such things are always a lot cheaper there. I [...]
This has to be the coolest thing in digital photography since 8bit color: Microsoft’s new Photosynth software.
I just got a few of my photos printed A3 size. Now I just have to pluck up the courage to get them framed and try flogging them!
Canon 50mm is dead, long live Sigma 50mm! I’ve gotten over last week’s loss pretty quickly with the help of a new Sigma 50mm f2.8 DG Macro lens.
It’s just an amazing lens with 1:1 macro so I get right up close to things and get the sort of detail you don’t normally see. I’m dying [...]
R.I.P. Canon 50mm f/1.8. We had some good times together.
It was in my rucksack. I was sitting perched at the top of a tall rocky crag on Wee Binnian. I pulled my coat from my rucksack. It fell out of my rucksack. It bounced down the rocky crag. It broke into several pieces.
I did get [...]
Spent last weekend with some amazing friends in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. We stayed in a very nice caravan at Downies, and went swimming in the sea, canoeing, hiking. Evenings were spent sitting around campfires on the rocks. Times like that are gifts from God.
Today made up for this year’s disappointing lack of snow. Knowing the forecast was for wintry showers, my friend Scott and I headed for the Mournes, and climbed up Slieve Bearnagh…
The wind was gale force at the top and literally blew me off my feet a few times. There was snow, sleet and hail, and [...]
I’ve spent the last 2 weeks getting stressed about buying houses. For those of you not in the UK, house prices here have exploded in the last few years. Houses in places like “The Village” (a fairly dodgy rundown loyalist area of Belfast) have tripled in price, so that I would need a mortgage of [...]
Big thanks to my sis Natasha for filling her flickr account full of photos of our family from years ago. My mates are having a field day.
Course if I actually was embarassed I wouldn’t be mentioning them here. That’s my dad in our old car with Miranda the goat and I couldn’t be prouder!
In other [...]
Turns out my mum’s cousin Bill is making some really good music in a duo called Funkspiel, and you can listen to their stuff on their myspace page. It’s very like a lot of the music I listen to like Bonobo, Lemon Jelly etc.
I made a picture to show how I made the HDR photos [...]
