The news this week has all been about climate change. Here are two things I learnt this week:
1. Mars may be experiencing severe global warming without human influence. Which is good because maybe we can go live there…
2. There is a movement called the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement who encourage people to stop having children so the human race can be phased out and the earth can return to good health.
I’m all for taking good care of our planet, and I think it is part of the Christian calling to be a good steward of what we have been given. But it saddens me to see love for the natural world becoming a lack of love for human beings. It disturbs me to hear “scientists” such as Eric Pianka calling for 90% of the human population to be wiped out with the Ebola virus.
I suggest we all calm down, pour ourselves some cups of tea, and figure out some intelligent ways to deal with climate change.

I assure you that nothing intelligent will be said in the great debate on global climate change any time in the near future — especially now that prominent members of the US Congress have move us several years backward in the educational process by constantly referring to it as “global warming.”
I can muster nothing more on the topic than a half hearted sigh.

There is an obvious problem with calling it “global warming” in Ireland… we all wish it would get a bit bliming warmer here! If we called it “global more rain” the Irish would take more notice!
