Last night on BBC Newsnight they were talking about heroes and they were interviewing a man who had pulled a child and mother from a burning car seconds before it exploded. They also had an evolutionary biologist on hand to attempt to explain why people do heroic things and put their own lives in danger to save others. He started well..by conceding that evolution has difficulty explaining such behavior, but then went off into the usual ridiculous evolutionary psychology. Such behavior, he explained, was just a “mistake” caused by human beings unfortunate tendency to believe propaganda.

What annoys me is that most evolutionary biologists tell us these things in such a way that it’s obvious that they don’t fully believe what they are saying, perhaps because they can appreciate how ridiculous it sounds and how unbearable life would be if everyone believed them. It’s like when Dawkins concedes that Darwinism implies determinism, but then says life would be “intolerable” if we accepted that.

It’s time for intelligent people to start questioning this nonsense. Materialism has been forced down our throats for way too long, even though the universe screams of design and meaning.

I can’t get enough of that “clear-thinking oasis,” The Brites.

Both my RSI and my driving skills appear to be slowly improving this week. Bit sad because the youth stuff I normally do has started back tonight and I’m not there.
