I’m typing this with only my right hand…which is very slow and tedious. I’m having a bit of an RSI problem at the minute. My left arm (the one that usually does all the typing and mousing) is very sore. Not good when one has just started a programming job! Argh! When you start a job you really want to make a good impression and distinguish yourself, but I find myself hating every minute of using a computer…which is a new feeling given that computers have always been a huge part of my life.
Took 5 mins to type that. Don’t be insulted if I don’t reply to emails or chat on msm for a while. I’ll assume that the universe won’t collapse in on itself if I ease off on the blogging for a while as well.

dont worry about not being able to type, i had surgery and couldnt type for ages. take your time. starting a new job is always scary, and i started my last job not able to walk properly. people will see how good you are very quickly. hopefully you didnt puke in every toilet ! yes i remember

I’ve gotten some advice and RSI and I’ve realised how bad my way of using mouse / keyboard is.

Ciaran here. Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. Had a look at your HDR images – pretty impressive! I must give it a go myself sometime. Some flash filters are currently winging their way towards me, i’m excited as to the possibilities they open up…. all will be revealed later!
My main lens is the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC of which you speak, and I think its a pretty good wee lens. It’s not as fast at focussing as my 70-200 f2.8L but then you wouldn’t expect it to match the L series USM…. I could tell you all about it but it would probably be safer for you to just have a play about with is sometime. Next time Andy has a party I’ll bring it along…..

I think if I wasn’t coughing up for a car and insurance this month I would just go get one of those lenses cuz I’ve heard so many good reports about them.

There is a very good review of the lens here – you might have already seen it:

The only bad sides are soft corners fully open at 18mm and CA / Purple fringng. I had noticed pf in some of my shots but you can correct it with a bit of effort in photoshop.
By all accounts its definitely better than the kit lens but if you already have the kit lens it might be more fun to try something with a different range. I’m looking at a sigma 8mm circular fisheye or the canon 100mm f2.8 macro… decisions decisions!
